Our

History

Our founder Amy Glosser didn’t set out to open a fitness studio. Instead, she was an avid indoor cyclist, full-time mom, and former marketer with a MBA from Wharton. But when her favorite local studio in Brooklyn was closing in 2014, inspiration struck: She decided she had to keep the studio going, so that she and other community members wouldn’t have to join big gyms or franchises — which lack the welcoming, warm vibe she loved from this smaller studio.

And voila, BYKlyn was born.

Since then, BYKlyn has had four different locations across the Park Slope area and has grown exponentially in clientele. But its mission and core values have always stayed the same. BYKlyn, by design, is meant to feel like a small community — where instructors and staff know your name. The clientele and instructors alike are diverse, with different ages, bodies, races, genders, sexual orientations, and fitness levels. And importantly, there’s no judgment or pressure. Everyone is here to find and make their own progress.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, like many other small businesses in Brooklyn, Amy was faced with a choice — close or ride it out. Believing fiercely in the resilience of Brooklynites, she chose to pivot the business from indoor to outdoor cycling.

BYKlyn’s loyal clientele came out to the BYKlyn Yard for classes come rain or shine, 100 degree or freezing weather, for 18 months. The popularity of these outdoor classes led to the inspiration for BYKlyn’s new hybrid space, which features an open-air bike deck — bringing the best of indoor and outdoor cycling, strength and stretch to clients.

BYKlyn is happy to have you along for the ride.
